University of Dayton men’s basketball coach Brian Gregory has announced that freshman guards Juwan Staten and Brandon Spearman are transferring from the University.
“We appreciate Juwan and Brandon’s efforts this season,” Gregory said. “Players choosing to transfer is far more prevalent in college basketball than it has ever been, and Juwan and Brandon have decided to continue their careers elsewhere. We wish them good luck in their academic and athletic futures.”
Staten, a 6-foot point guard, averaged 8.5 points and 5.4 assists in 35 games (34 starts) in 2010-11. The Dayton native, a graduate of Oak Hill Academy, was a member of the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team.
Spearman averaged 2.5 points and 1.2 rebounds in 10.9 minutes of play this year. The 6-foot-3 Chicago Simeon graduate played in all 36 games with two starts.
Dayton was 22-14 in 2010-11, and lost to an NCAA Sweet Sixteen team in Richmond in the A-10 championship game. UD reached the post-season for the fourth straight year by earning an at-large bid to the NIT.
