Louisville Postgame Notes
•The Cardinals have now won 11 straight and 21 of their last 23 games.
•Louisville, the No. 1 overall seed, advanced to the Round of 32 along with the other two No. 1 seeds from the BIG EAST (Pitt and UConn). The BIG EAST is the first conference to ever supply the NCAA Tournament with three No. 1 seeds. Only one BIG EAST team of seven total bids, West Virginia, lost in the First Round.
•The last time Louisville won the BIG EAST Conference Tournament was in 2005, which was the last time the Cardinals advanced to the Final Four in the NCAA Tournament.
•The BIG EAST is now 5-0 against OVC competition this season.
•Louisville boasts the best scoring defense to come out of the BIG EAST (61.6 points per game), and the Cardinals held Morehead State to 54 points tonight. It was the 19th opponent Louisville has held to under 60 points this season.
•Morehead State and Louisville played each other on Nov. 22, 2008 and the Cardinals won the game 79-41. After beating the Eagles twice this season, Louisville now holds a 31-11 all-time edge in the series between the two schools. Louisville also holds a 5-1 advantage on neutral courts and a 3-0 edge in the NCAA Tournament. They have won the last 13 meetings and 26 of the last 27.
•The Cardinals eliminated Morehead State the last time they reached the NCAA Tournament, which was in the Mideast Regional in 1984.
•Louisville Head Coach Rick Pitino is making his 14th NCAA Tournament appearance and now holds a 36-12 overall record in the postseason. The win tonight was the 550th of his career.
•This is the 35th NCAA Tournament appearance for the Louisville program; they have reached the NCAA Tournament in 26 of the past 33 years and now hold a 58-36 overall record in the tournament.
•Terrence Williams scored 13 points in tonight's game to reach 1,521 for his career. The senior forward moved past former Cardinal, Nate Johnson (1996-2000), for 18th place on the all-time U of L scoring list. Williams is one assist short (527) of second place on the all-time Louisville list and is also tied for fifth in games started (124). He also had nine rebounds in the win, which gives him 938 for his career and places him seventh in school history.
Morehead State University post game notes
-In Tuesday's NCAA Opening Round Game versus Alabama State, Kenneth Faried grabbed 21 rebounds, which was one shy of tying the NCAA tournament record of 22 rebounds. As of now Faried is second for most rebounds in a NCAA tournament game behind Notre Dame's Luke Harangody and former Wake Forest Demon Deacon Tim Duncan. Tonight, Faried tallied 11 boards.
- In 1984 after Morehead State won the NCAA Opening Round game also held at Dayton against North Carolina A&T they then went to play Louisville in the NCAA First Round. Morehead lost that game 72-59.
-Morehead State played Louisville at the beginning of the 2008-2009 season. Although only trailing by 9 at the half, Louisville opened up in the second half and scored 51 points and ended up winning the game by a score of 79-41.
-Kenneth Faried recorded his 25th double-double of the season tonight.
-Kenneth Faried ranks third in the nation in rebounds and third in the nation in double doubles.
-Morehead State's Kenneth Faried ranks 12th on Morehead State's all time rebounding list and is only a sophomore.
