University of Dayton freshman forward Chris Johnson has been named Atlantic 10 co-Rookie of the Week after helping UD to a pair of wins last week. Johnson nearly averaged a double-double in just 37 minutes of playing time in the Flyer wins over Fordham at home and at then-first-place Duquesne.
Johnson averaged 9.5 points and 8.5 rebounds, and shot .545 (6-11) FG and 1.000 (6-6) from the line for the week. UD edged Fordham 72-71 at home on Wednesday and handed Duquesne its first A-10 loss 78-69 in Pittsburgh on Saturday.
He shared the A-10 honor with Fordham guard Alberto Eastwick.
For the season, Johnson is averaging 6.9 points and 6.0 rebounds. The Columbus Brookhaven product is tied for team honors in offensive rebounds with Chris Wright, even though Johnson averages 17.3 minutes a game. Johnson is also second on the team on total rebounds and third in FT% (.744, 29-39).
Dayton is back in action Thursday when the Flyers play at George Washington. UD returns home on Sunday, January 25 to host St. Bonaventure.
