DAYTON, Ohio – University of Dayton baseball allowed six runs driven in by homeruns and lost its last non-conference game of the regular season to Ohio on Tuesday night, 7-2.

The Flyers fall to 25-28, as Ohio improves to 27-25.

Senior shortstop Brian Blasik reached base in three of four trips to the plate and finished 2-for-4 with a run scored. In the first inning Blasik recorded a two-out single which extended his hitting streak to 11 games.

Ohio took a 1-0 lead in the second inning as Jensen Painter hit a lead-off homerun – his team-leading 13th of the season. Jensen also leads the Bobcats with 41 RBI.

Dayton tied the game with two runs in the sixth inning. With one out, Ian Hundley got things started with a single to left field. Blasik and senior C.J. Gillman added consecutive singles to put the Flyers on the board. Gillman drove in his conference-leading 60th RBI of the season. Senior Zach Stewart drove in Dayton’s second run on a fielder’s choice.

Ohio catcher Kyle Dean caught Dayton stealing three times in four attempts on Tuesday – tying a season-high for Dayton. The Flyers entered the game leading the nation in stolen bases (152), having been caught just 28 times – an average of 0.54 CS per game. Hundley had Dayton’s lone stolen base of the game.

Ohio took the go-ahead 6-2 lead in the sixth inning on a four-run homerun from Kyle Dean. The Bobcats led off the inning with a double and loaded the bases on two walks – the first allowed by left-handed starter Tommy Konrad and the second allowed by fellow lefty Matthew Miller after a pitching change.

The Bobcat’s first run not scored on a homerun was a two-out double steal in the seventh inning, increasing OU’s lead to five runs (7-2). Painter initiated the play by stealing second, while Tyler Wells advanced home on the throw.

Freshman Denton Sagerman pitched the last 1 1/3 innings for the Flyers, allowing no hits and striking out two. Konrad (3-4) received the loss in his fourth start of the season. Ohio’s Sean Kennedy (4-0) earned credit for the win, despite allowing Dayton’s two runs.

The Flyers will end the season with a 2-12 mark in mid-week games.

Dayton will play its final Atlantic 10 Conference series of the season at La Salle, beginning on Thursday at 3 p.m. ET. If the Flyers, at 14-7 in league play, sweep the Explorers UD will share the A-10 regular season title with Saint Louis (17-7).
