AMBLER, Pa. – Senior right-handed pitcher Tim Bury earned his fifth win in as many starts after leading Dayton to a 7-1 victory on Saturday afternoon at Skip Wilson Field.

Bury (6-2) pitched eight innings with nine strikeouts while allowing no earned runs on just four hits. In his last five starts the Overland Park, Kan., native is averaging 8 2/3 innings pitched with a 1.26 earned run average.

Dayton (22-25, 11-6 A-10) evens the three-game series which concludes on Sunday at noon. Temple falls to 17-29 and 5-12 in league play.

Senior shortstop Brian Blasik paced the Flyers offensively with three runs driven in on one hit and a sacrifice fly. Senior centerfielder Bobby Glover went 3-for-4 with two runs scored from the leadoff spot and now has a hit in 12 of the last 13 games. Senior left fielder Zach Stewart drove in a run and finished with three hits for the third time this season.

Temple starter Matt Hockenberry (4-3) lasted five innings and allowed six runs to receive the loss.

Dayton matched its hit total from Friday’s game (3) in the third inning alone as two runs crossed the plate on a single from Blasik. All three hits in the inning came consecutively as a Glover single and a Joe Gayda double put runners at second and third before Blasik’s two-RBI base knock.

Temple answered in the bottom half of the third inning with an unearned run when Foster Dunigan led off with a single and was sacrificed to second.  Dunigan scored as Jordan Queja reached base on a Dayton error.

The Flyers added four runs on five hits in the fifth inning to take a 6-1 advantage. UD loaded the bases in the first three at bats for a sacrifice fly from Blasik. Three consecutive singles drove in the next three runs. Freshman A.J. Ryan registered one of those RBI singles to break a 0-for-22 drought at the plate.

After Temple scored a run in the third inning, Bury and the Flyers didn’t allow an Owl runner to advance past first base for the remainder of the game.

Junior right-handed pitcher Parker Schrage pitched the ninth inning for Dayton with one strikeout through four batters faced.

The three-game series at Skip Wilson Field in Amber, Pa., concludes tomorrow at 12 p.m. ET.
