RYAN NAMED A-10 ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Freshman A.J. Ryan made his first career start on Sunday at High Point.
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Freshman A.J. Ryan was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week for his break-out performance during the High Point series, the league office announced on Monday.

Ryan led the Flyers in batting average (.556) and RBI (5) during the series at High Point to prove himself as a factor in the UD lineup. The La Garange Park, Ill., native made his first career start on Sunday at first base and in the cleanup position in the batting order, going 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and a stolen base. In the first two games of the series, he registered two hits and a RBI in his five appearances at-bat – both times entering the game as a pinch hitter.

A-10 Player and Pitcher of the Week
Saint Louis’ Alex Kelly was named the Player of the Week and Rhode Island's Anthony Pisani was named the Pitcher of the Week for games played during the week of Feb. 20 through 26.

Dayton's Rookies of the Week
Ryan is the 13th Flyer all-time, and fifth among active players, to have been named the A-10 Rookie of the Week. Last season, Mel Skochdopole was named Rookie of the Week on April 4. Bryce Lahrman (3/1/10) and Joe Gayda (5/3/10) each took home the recognition in 2010. Burny Mitchem was the A-10’s top rookie for the week of April 28, 2008.

Home Opener This Tuesday
Dayton’s 2012 home opener is on Tuesday against Bowling Green State at Woerner Field at Time Warner Cable Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET with forecasted sunny skies and a high near 50 degrees.
