FLYERS SWEEP OWLS WITH 13-3 WIN ON SUNDAY

AMBLER, Pa.
– The University of Dayton Flyers completed their first series sweep of the season behind a 13-run effort on Saturday. Pitcher Mike Hauschild earned his second win of the season striking out nine batters and allowing just three earned runs in seven innings of work. It was also Tony Vittorio's 300th win at UD.

Four Flyers had multiple RBI days on Sunday. Zach Jacob was 3-of-4, scoring four times while tallying two RBI. Dan Welch was 3-of-5 with two RBI and a double. Zach Lammers was 3-of-4 with one run scored and two RBI. Sophomore Brian Blasik finished with a double and two RBI.

Ian Gardeck and Trent Haughn finished out the game for UD. Both kept the Owls hitless. Gardeck had one strikeout and one walk. Haughn fanned two-of-three batters faced.

Dayton’s bats caught fire quickly, scoring three runs in the first inning. Jacob singled down the left field line to score Aaron Dunsmore. Blasik knocked a two-run double to the left field to give UD a 3-0 advantage.

The Flyers added three more in the third inning. Dunsmore scored again on Tyrell’s base hit to right field. Welch and Jimmy Roesinger’s singles added the other two runs as UD increased its margin.

In the fourth inning, the Brown Street Bombers were in full force uncorking four more runs to increase the lead to 10-0. Tyrell and Mitchell Nelson scored on unearned runs. Welch’s double to center field scored Jacob and Lammers’ single brought Welch home.

Temple added two runs in the bottom half of the fourth, however, the Flyers outpaced Temple three runs to one in the final three frames to win their third straight game.

UD returns to action this week against the Wittenberg Tigers on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. ET. Mike Ivcic will broadcast the game live from Time Warner Cable Stadium, with pregame comments beginning at 3:30. The Flyers will also be collecting used gloves for “The Good of Gloves” as well as raising money for the Muscular Dystrophy Assocation and the Autism Project. Admission to Time Warner Cable Stadium is free.
