COMEBACK FALLS SHORT IN 7-5 LOSS

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.
-- The University of Dayton baseball team fell 7-5 to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Saturday.

Junior Jimmy Roesinger led the team with three RBI. Roesinger cranked a three-run home run against the Deacs in the top of the eighth inning.

Senior Aaron Dunsmore had an RBI home run in a 2-for-4 day at the plate for UD.  Junior transfer Dan Welch was also 2-for-4 with one RBI.

Redshirt sophomore Burny Mitchem pitched five innings with five strikeouts. He allowed five earned runs against Wake Forest.

Bryce Lahrman saw his first collegiate action, tossing one scorelesss inning for the Flyers. Lahrman had one strikeout in four batters faced. Matt Speckman pitched two innings of scoreless baseball, adding two punchouts.

The Demon Deacons opened the scoring in the first inning with a pair of base hits to score runners.

Dayton shortstop Cole Tyrell scored on Welch’s single through the left side in the second inning.

The Deacs responded with five unanswered runs, until Dunsmore’s solo home run in the top of the seventh.

UD tried to cut further into the deficit on Roesinger’s three-run shot in the top of the eight, but could not complete the comeback.

Dayton returns to action tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. ET at Wake Forest Baseball Park to close out its road trip. Mike Ivcic will have the call live against the Demon Deacons at www.DaytonFlyers.com.
