DAYTON BASEBALL ADDS FIVE COMMITMENTS

Nov. 22, 2006

DAYTON, Ohio - University of Dayton baseball coach Tony Vittorio announced the commitments of five high school prospects on Wednesday. The group includes Burny Mitchem and Joey Henry from Michigan as well as Tim Corbey, Tim Lynn and Zach Lammers from Ohio. All five players will join the Flyer roster for the 2008 season.

The group includes three right handed pitchers in Mitchem (Farmington, Mich./Farmington HS), Corbey (Toledo, Ohio/St. John's HS), Lynn (Canton, Ohio/Canton Central Catholic HS). Also, two outfielders will join the Flyer family in Henry (Rochester Hills, Mich./Brother Rice HS) and Lammers (Brookville, Ohio/Brookville HS).

All five players are expected to make an impact according to Vittorio.

"We are ecstatic about this class. These young men fit into our needs, which are to replace some outfielders and as always add to our pitching staff. This group, led by a great talent in Mitchem, will be exciting to watch develop throughout their years at UD."

Dayton (33-24) finished with its fourth 30-plus win season since 2001 at 33-24 under the direction of seventh-year Head Coach Tony Vittorio. The Flyers also advanced to the Atlantic 10 Championships for the second consecutive season and won their first round game for the second time in four appearances overall. UD placed third out of 14 teams in the Atlantic 10 Conference, which is the largest baseball conference in the nation.

"Our program has grown over the past seven years and so has the expectations of our players," Vittorio said. "These incoming players will help us to reach our goal, which is to win an Atlantic 10 Championship and make it to an NCAA Regional."

Dayton's 2007 season begins with a doubleheader against Wofford in Spartanburg, SC on Feb. 10.
