DAYTON, Ohio – Senior Tim Bury threw a complete nine innings of one-run ball to guide University of Dayton baseball to a series-clinching win over UMass on Friday afternoon at Time Warner Cable Stadium, 6-1.

The Flyers are now 24-27 and 13-7 in the Atlantic 10 and will close the 2012 home season tomorrow for Senior Day against UMass beginning at 12 p.m. ET. The Minutemen fall to 19-19 and 11-9 in league play after losing two straight to the Flyers.

In each of his last six starts Bury has been the winning pitcher and lasted at least eight full innings. Friday was no different as he scattered 13 ground-outs and seven fly-outs to hold UMass to one earned run in his third complete-game of the season. The Overland Park, Kan., has allowed just seven runs in his last six starts with a 1.21 earned run average.

Senior shortstop Brian Blasik led the Flyers with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate and his 32nd stolen base of the season. Senior centerfielder Bobby Glover and sophomore third baseman Robby Sunderman each homered for Dayton, making it the seventh game of the season UD has hit multiple homeruns.

UMass’ only run of the game was in the second inning to take an early 1-0 lead. Catcher Tom Conley led off with a single and eventually scored on an RBI single from Nik Campero. Conley finished with two hits and one run scored.

The Flyers responded to tie the game in the bottom half of the second with an RBI single from Sunderman to score senior Zach Stewart, who reached on a leadoff double. UD took a go-ahead 2-1 led in the third on Glover’s leadoff homerun, while adding three more before the inning was over.

Bury closed the last five innings of the game by retiring 13 of his last 15 batters faced, allowing just one hit.

Dayton will go for a sweep on Senior Day tomorrow beginning at 12 p.m. ET. Fifteen minutes prior to first pitch the program will honor a group of 10 graduating seniors on the field.
