RICHMOND, Va. – Tim Bury tossed a complete-game shutout to guide Dayton to a 1-0 victory over Richmond on Saturday afternoon at Pitt Field.

The win clinches the three-game series for Dayton (21-13, 10-4 A-10) and puts them a half-game out of first place in the Atlantic 10 standings. Richmond falls to 20-19 and 7-7 in league play.

Bury (5-2) faced the minimum through 5 2/3 innings, despite allowing two hits and a walk during that period. A double-play ended the third inning after a single by Ryan Mallory broke up Bury’s perfect game.

UR’s Jacob Mayers drew a walk in the fourth, but was picked off by Bury to end the inning – his third pickoff of the season. In the sixth inning, Mallory singled again, but was thrown out at second while attempting to stretch his hit into a double.

“Tim did a great job of competing on the mound today,” Head Coach Tony Vittorio said. “When you have back-to-back complete-games from your starting pitchers it is great for your pitching staff. Both Tim and Mike Hauschild have been throwing great for us.”

Three of the Flyers’ eight hits came in the top of the ninth inning as UD took the go-ahead 1-0 lead.

Senior C.J. Gillman led off the inning with a bloopered-double to left field. With one out, junior Jared Broughton battled to a full count and hit the go-ahead RBI single. Broughton’s game-winning RBI was his second hit of the day.

Bury returned to the mound in the bottom of the ninth to retire the Spiders in order with a strikeout. The Overland Park, Kan., native would finish his second complete-game of the season with six strikeouts and allowed just four hits.

Richmond lefty starting pitcher Zak Sterling lasted seven shutout innings with seven strikeouts in a no-decision. Andrew Brockett (0-7) pitched two relief innings, allowing four hits and one runs to receive the loss.

The Flyers will go for their second road conference sweep of the season tomorrow at 12 p.m. ET.

• Tim Bury is 4-0 in his last four starts with a 1.54 earned run average – just six earned runs through 35 innings pitched.
• Dayton clinched its fourth consecutive conference series victory after winning the first two over Richmond. The Flyers stand a half-game out of first place in the Atlantic 10 at 10-4, behind Rhode Island (11-4) which has a bye in conference play this weekend. UD is 5-0 in road conference games this season.
• Neither team committed an error on Saturday. It is the fourth game of the season in which both UD and its opponent did not record an error. It is the seventh error-less game for the Flyers.
• Dayton improves to 19-13 during weekend games this season (games on Friday, Saturday or Sunday). The Flyers’ weekend ERA is now 4.66, compared to a mid-week ERA of 7.88.
• Bobby Glover extended his hitting streak to 10 games, going 1-for-4 at the plate on Saturday. Glover is already the owner of the A-10’s longest hitting streak of the season after starting the season on a 21-game tear.

• Brian Blasik recorded a stolen base in the fourth inning, increasing his single-season program-record to 25. In his four-year career at UD Blasik has 55 stolen bases, ranked third all-time at Dayton. Brian Harlamert (1991-94) ranks second with 61 and Michael Massa (2004-07) holds UD’s career stolen bases record with 63.
