TOLEDO, Ohio – Dayton baseball’s three-game winning streak came to an end on Tuesday afternoon in a 7-5 loss at Toledo.

The Flyers fall to 15-19 and will return to action this weekend against Fordham at Time Warner Cable Stadium. Toledo (14-18) takes the two-game season series against the Flyers, also winning on March 14 in Xenia, Ohio.

Starting in his first game since March 13, senior Mike Coughlin led the Flyers with two hits and two runs batted in.

Senior Brian Blasik’s 14-game hitting streak came to an end, despite driving in two runs and recording Dayton’s only stolen base. Blasik drove in a run in the fifth inning on a fielder’s choice grounder. In the eighth inning he hit a sacrifice fly to narrow the Flyers’ deficit to one run, 6-5.

Dayton scored first to take an early 3-0 lead in the second inning. Senior C.J. Gillman led off the inning with a single. Junior Jared Broughton drove Gillman in on a RBI single up the middle for the first run of the game. In the next at-bat, Coughlin hit his first double of the season to drive in two runs for a 3-0 lead.

Toledo answered with a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the second and a three-run fourth inning to take a 4-3 lead.

Dayton knotted the game at four in the fifth inning after catcher Josh Jeffery led off with a single, followed by a walk drawn by Bobby Glover and a bunted single from Robby Sunderman. With the bases loaded Blasik drove in Jeffery with a fielder’s choice grounder to tie the game, 4-4.

The Rockets took the go-ahead lead in the seventh inning. With one out and runners at the corners, Jeff Cola grounded out to second but also advancing Mark Lapikas from third base.

Toledo leadoff hitter Joe Corfman went 4-for-5 on the day with three RBI.

Freshman pitcher Denton Sagerman (0-1) received the loss after allowing the go-ahead run in the seventh inning. Toledo’s Tyler Scott (2-1) pitched 1 2/3 shutout innings in the sixth and seventh to receive the win.

Dayton returns home for a three-game conference series with Fordham, beginning Friday at 3 p.m. ET at Time Warner Cable Stadium.
