DAYTON, Ohio – University of Dayton baseball lost to Ohio State on Wednesday afternoon at Time Warner Cable Stadium, 11-7. The Flyers fall to 7-13 before entering conference play this weekend. The Buckeyes improve to 11-8.

Senior Bobby Glover extended his season-long hitting streak to 20 games with a single in the first inning and a two-run homerun in the fifth. Glover finished 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored.

Ohio State took the lead with three runs in the third inning and never surrendered its advantage. The Buckeyes scored a run in the fifth, five runs in the sixth and two runs in the seventh.

Six pitchers threw on the mound for the Flyers, led by right-handed starter Burny Mitchem. Mitchem was restricted to one shutout inning, striking out two to increase his career total to 273. Sophomore lefty Tommy Konrad (2-1) gave up OSU’s three go-ahead runs in the third to earn credit for the loss.

The Flyers rallied with five unearned runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Sophomore pinch-hitter Ryan Berry drove in three of those runs with his first career homerun, which put Dayton within four runs 11-7. Ryan pinch hit for catcher Josh Jeffery.

Ohio State starter Greg Greve (1-2) earned his first win of the season after pitching seven innings with seven strikeouts, while allowing two runs. The Buckeyes scored 11 runs on 11 hits, led by centerfielder Tim Wetzel’s 3-for-4 day at the plate.

Dayton opens the 2012 Atlantic 10 Conference schedule this weekend in a three-game series against St. Bonaventure at Time Warner Cable Stadium. The first game of the series on Friday at 3 p.m. ET will feature live video streaming through DaytonFlyers.com.
