DAYTON, Ohio – University of Dayton baseball lost its 2012 home opener to Bowling Green State, 5-2, on Tuesday afternoon at Time Warner Cable Stadium.

The Flyers fall to 1-5 on the season after suffering its second home-opening loss in six seasons. The Falcons earned their first win of the season, improving to 1-5.

Junior right-handed pitcher Parker Schrage (0-3) made his first start as a Flyer on the mound, but again received credit for the loss after allowing seven hits and two runs in two innings of work. Schrage has just pitched pitched 6 ⅓ innings this season yet still has received the loss in all three appearances with a 4.26 ERA.

Junior Jared Broughton had his first multi-hit game of the season after registering a 2-for-3 performance at the plate - the Flyers’ lone multi-hit performance. Senior Mike Coughlin scored both of Dayton’s two runs after reaching base on three-of-four trips to the plate - two BGSU fielding errors and a single in the ninth during a UD rally.

Down 1-5 in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Flyers scored a run with two outs but ended the game with the go-ahead run at the plate. Senior C.J. Gillman - Dayton’s last batter - hit a line-drive to shallow centerfield which was caught by BGSU’s Jake Thomas to end the game.

Six Falcons registered multi-hit games, including the first four players in BGSU’s batting order. First baseman Drew Kuns went 3-for-5 with two RBI. Matt Malewitz (1-0) earned his first win of the season after holding the Flyers scoreless during his 3 ⅓ innings with two strikeouts.

Dayton’s redshirt freshman Matthew Miller made his first career appearance as a Flyer in the ninth inning. The Louisville, Ky., native struck out the one batter whom he faced.

Dayton allowed a season-high of 15 hits and left a total of 10 runners on the base.

The Flyers will travel to Cookeville, Tenn., this weekend for a three-game series with Tennessee Tech, beginning Friday at 4 p.m. ET.
