ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – University of Dayton baseball will begin a three-game Atlantic 10 Conference series at St. Bonaventure with a doubleheader on Thursday. The series will have major implications on the conference’s post-season tournament as the Flyers and Bonnies stand a game apart in the A-10 standings.

The doubleheader to open the series was scheduled on Thursday to avoid impending rain the forecast on Friday and Saturday. St. Bonaventure has a synthetic FieldTurf playing surface in the infield and outfield.

Dayton (26-22, 11-7 A-10) enters the weekend tied for third in the Atlantic 10 Conference standings as St. Bonaventure (20-20, 10-8) enters in a four-way tie for fifth place. Both teams have six conference games remaining the regular season before the six-team A-10 Championship will be determined. The top eight teams in the conference are separated by just three-and-a-half games.

St. Bonaventure enters the weekend on a four-game winning streak after sweeping at Temple last weekend. Brad Steinbach leads the Bonnies with a .367 batting average and pitcher Jordan Crane has a team-best 2.61 ERA. Cael Johnson has been lights-out for SBU in conference play with a 1.80 ERA and 3-1 record. Right-handed pitcher Andrew Revello (1-4, 4.33 ERA) is slated to start game one on Thursday.

The Flyers’ junior infielder Brian Blasik has the second-best batting average in the conference at .399. Both Blasik and junior first baseman C.J. Gillman lead the A-10 in hits during conference play with 31 each. Gillman stands alone with the top batting average during conference play (.425).

The Flyers’ game one starter, junior Burny Mitchem, has pitched three consecutive complete-games and is coming off a shutout performance against Xavier which earned him A-10 Pitcher of the Week honors. UD is 6-0 when Mitchem starts conference games this season while the Farmington, Mich., native has the third-best ERA in the A-10 at 2.08.

Junior left-handed pitcher Cameron Hobson leads the A-10 in strikeouts this season with 81 and holds the career strikeout record at Dayton with 232. Mitchem stands in second all-time at Dayton with 227 career Ks.
