March 24, 2009

Box Score

DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton Flyers downed the Toledo Rockets 18-8 at Time Warner Cable Stadium on Tuesday.

The Flyers were paced by a 3-for-5, five RBI performance by right fielder Aaron Dunsmore. Jimmy Roesinger went 4-for-6 with four RBI as well for Dayton.

Right-hander Eric Wagner picked up his first win this season pitching six innings for the Flyers. Wagner struck out two and allowed five earned runs in the win.

UD trailed after the first half inning 1-0, but the Flyer bats took care of business for the large part of the game.

A single by Dunsmore drove in Zach Jacob on the play to even the score at one apiece. Catcher Scott Dunwoody drove home Jake Hoover for the second run of the day.

Toledo edged ahead with a pair of runs before the Flyer offense went to work on Toledo's bullpen. Dunsmore's three run homer helped break the game open in the bottom of the fifth inning. Roesinger's single knocked home two more runs to end the inning with a 7-3 advantage.

UD continued the offensive onslaught in the sixth inning piling in six more runs off of hits from Cole Tyrell and Hoover. Ryan Nevill pounded a three-run shot over the left field wall giving Dayton a seemingly insurmountable lead.

UT put together a string of decent innings with five runs towards the end of the game. However, the Dayton bats answered again to stay ahead for good matching the Rockets run for run. Dayton remains at home to face Miami (Ohio) tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. at Time Warner Cable Stadium. The game can be followed live on Gametracker and on 1660 Information Radio.
