Joe Owens is in his 23rd year with the University. He is responsible for the operations of several programs and services within the Athletics Division. He is the Director of the Athletic Performance Enhancement Program. This program coordinates the Division's efforts in sports medicine, strength and conditioning, nutrition, and sports psychology. He also supervises the operations of the Frericks Center and Athletic Practice Facility. Owens is the sport program administrator for rowing, women's indoor and outdoor track, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's tennis, and women's golf. Owens earned a Master's degree in exercise physiology from Wright State University School of Medicine in 1985. He brings 32 years of strength and conditioning and sports medicine experience to benefit UD's student-athletes. He was a part of the team that founded the Miami Valley Hospital Sports Medicine Center. Owens was "Recertified with Distinction" as a strength and conditioning specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association since 2000 and is one of less that 50 professionals who have earned the designation of "NSCA Coach Practitioner". Owens was a participant in the "Leadership UD" program. Leadership UD accepts 20 UD administrators for a yearlong program dedicated to the exploration of leadership and leadership issues, discovery of one's leadership capacity, understanding and exposure to formal leadership structures of the University, and UD's leadership role in and commitment to the community. Owens is on the University Hearing Board and serves as the campus sponsor for Athletes in Action. Owens and his wife, Kelly, reside in Centerville and have one son Marcus, age 25, who lives in Atlanta Ga. |
