ACADEMIC ADVISING
- Academic Advisors
Student-athletes are assigned academic advisors according to their major. Academic advisors are University faculty and staff members who assist student-athletes with choosing classes each term, make schedule changes, and plan their degree program. Student-athletes must meet with their academic advisor prior to registering for classes each semester.
- Academic Coordinators
Academic Coordinators are assigned to specific athletic teams and are responsible for providing academic support to all student-athletes. Coordinators compliment the University's academic advisors by assisting in academic advising, counseling, and monitoring. Academic coordinators ensure that student-athletes follow NCAA, Atlantic-10 and University of Dayton guidelines.
SUPPORT SERVICES
- Weekly Meetings
Academic Coordinators hold weekly meeting with student-athletes to asses how they are performing in their course work; time management, study skills, organization, and goal setting are emphasized. Academic meetings also serve as an opportunity to communicate athletic and/or personal issues. Appropriate referrals are often made to additional campus resources, including tutoring, financial aid, admissions, registrars, and career and counseling services.
- Priority Registration
The University recognizes that student-athletes have to keep a structured schedule in order to maintain a healthy balance between academics and athletics. For this reason, student-athletes have the opportunity to register on a priority basis. This ensures that student-athletes are able to register for the classes necessary to meet the satisfactory progress requirements to earn their degree.
- Academic Monitoring
Academic coordinators closely monitor the academic progress of student athletes. Twice per semester, progress reports are issued to professors to ensure that attendance, effort and progress are maintained. In addition to progress reports, midterm grades are reported by the university for all freshmen. Progress Reports and midterm grades are communicated to coaches and athletic administrators.
