Academic Achievements


The University of Dayton is consistently ranked as one of the premier institutions in the country. The academic standards for student-athletes are never compromised. They are expected to achieve in the classroom as well as on their fields of play. UD is proud of the student-athletes and the academic honors they have collected.

Overall Academic Achievements

  • Flyer student-athletes continue to succeed in the classroom earning a cumulative grade point average of 3.209 through the 2007-08 school year, the highest grade point average in UD history. In addition, 14 of its 16 teams have a combined grade point average of 3.0 or better.
  • Winter 2008, 68 percent (253 out of 374) of student-athletes earn a 3.0 or higher semester grade point average.
  • Overall, student-athletes have a mean cumulative grade point average of 3.20 after the winter 2008 semester.
  • During winter 2008 term, 22 student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0 semester grade point average.
  • The University of Dayton is one of the top schools among NCAA Division I institutions and the best in the Atlantic 10 Conference at graduating its student-athletes. According to the 2008 NCAA Graduation Success Rate report, Dayton graduated 96 percent of its student-athletes who began their careers between 1997 and 2000.
  • Women's Cross Country had the highest team semester GPA with a 3.66 after winter 2008, followed by Women's Golf with a 3.52 team semester GPA.
  • Amanda Gallow, Women's Soccer, was selected to the 2007 Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Academic All-Conference Team.
  • Eight members of the Football team were named ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District. Brandon Cramer and Brian Kelly were selected to the first team. Second Team recipients were Tyler Blue, Chad Burton, Jim Croghan, Sean Heenan, Kalen Hemmelgarn and Ben Shappie.
  • Brandon Cramer, Football, earned the highest honor ever bestowed upon any UD student-athlete as he was named the 2007 ESPN The Magazine University Division Academic All-American of the Year. Cramer is the first of UD's 46 All-Americans to be named the Academic All-American of the Year in any sport.
  • Karah Cloxton, Women's Basketball, was named to the 2008 Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference Team.
  • Allysa Detroy and Megan Gray were named to the Academic All-Conference team for Women's Tennis. Detroy, named for the second consecutive year, had the prestigious honor of being awarded the student-athlete of the year in women's tennis.
  • Jeanna Heink and Lydia Caldwell, Rowing, were chosen to be on the 2008 A-10 Academic All-Conference squad.
  • Both Softball and Baseball had two team members named to the 2008 Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference Teams. For Softball it was Erin LaFayette and Laura Matthews along with Quinn Haselhorst and Kevin Miller from Baseball.
  • The Track and Field team has been honored as one of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division I All-Academic Teams. The team had the 23rd best cumulative team grade point average as 117 Division I women's track and field programs were recognized. Sarah Allen was also named to the 2008 A-10 Academic All-Conference Team.
  • The Atlantic 10 Conference recognized 99 Flyer student-athletes for earning commissioner's honor roll status. The honorees must have a 3.5 or higher grade point average.
  • UD has had 27 Academic All-Americans in the last six years. Also, at least one Flyer student-athlete has been named an Academic All-American for 22 straight years.
