Student Athlete Advisory Committee
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is a committee comprised of student-athlete representatives from the 17 University of Dayton Athletics teams. The purpose of the SAAC is to provide student-athletes the opportunity to communicate more effectively with University of Dayton athletic administration, coaches and staff. It enables student-athletes to provide recommendations for the improvement of academic, athletic and social experiences. The committee encourages unity, common purpose and camaraderie between teams and among all student-athletes. It also encourages community involvement through service projects and fund-raisers.
The goals of SAAC are as follows:
To assist in creating stronger lines of communication between student-athletes and athletic administration.
To increase the level of participation by student-athletes in community service activities.
To organize activities and special events that encourages all student-athletes to participate.
To share information and feedback to team members about SAAC, student issues and upcoming events.
To provide feedback to enhance the experience of Dayton student-athletes.
SAAC is organized by an athletic department advisor, co-chairs and an executive committee that meet throughout the academic year. Student-athletes who are interested in representing their team should talk with their head coach or contact Megan Cable at (937) 229-4826.
Fall 2008 SAAC Events
Soap Drive
Each time a Dayton Flyer team travels for away competition, UD student-athletes will collecting extra toiletries (soap, shampoo, lotion, etc.) from the hotel. Upon their return, the student-athletes will drop off the items collected in the collection box located in the Academic Center of Frericks. All proceeds will be going to the Life Enrichment Center.
SAAC/Red Scare Cookout
UD student-athletes and members of Red Scare get together at a cookout for relaxation, study break, sample food and play games.
Merchandise Sale
SAAC sold Dayton Flyers gear to parents, families and alumni to help fund the AJ Cohen scholarship and assist with community service efforts in the Miami Valley region. If interested in purchasing merchandise, please contact Megan Cable at (937) 229-4826 or via e-mail at cablemea@notes.udayton.edu
Christmas on Campus
The Flyer student-athletes were paired up with kids from Boys and Girls Club, Urban Ministries and YMCA and took them around the University of Dayton campus. During their tour, the kids visited stations to play games, make arts and crafts, enjoy food, participate in a tree-lighting and see Santa Claus. In addition, each kid received a gift.
