Academic Enhancement Center

The renovation of the Physical Activities Center creates additional space for the improvement of academic facilities for student athletes. Currently, we do not have enough space to provide consistent study table schedules, counseling and tutoring sessions, and connected learning opportunities via computer and network access.

The academic achievements of our student athletes continue to be remarkable. The most recent cumulative grade point average report for our 450 student athletes revealed a 3.18 average.

Our student-athletes did extraordinarily well in the Graduation Success Rate data recently released by the NCAA. UD ranked sixth out of more than 325 Division I institutions. The data was for the four classes that entered between 1996 and 1999. The numbers represent the percentages of student-athletes who graduated.

The highlights:

  • Football was 1st in the Pioneer Football League (96 percent).

  • Men's Basketball is 1st in the Atlantic 10 (91 percent).

  • Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country/Track and Field, Men's Tennis, Women's Soccer were all 100 percent.

  • Most impressively, UD's 94 percent rate placed us 21st out of 334 Division I institutions.

As we continue to recruit a diverse pool of talented student athletes, we will need to improve our academic facilities to keep pace with the specialized and connected learning programs and provide strong academic support to maintain strong results.
