Preamble
In the national realm of collegiate athletics, it is widely recognized that maintaining a dedicated and enthusiastic group of student fans is beneficial to the Athletic Program of the University. In addition, it is widely documented that the overall success of a University's Athletic Program is advantageous for the students, faculty, and surrounding community. Having a comprehensive knowledge of these facts, the students find it necessary to establish a group dedicated to serving the school in a manner of spirit.p> We, the Flyer Faithful, knowing full well the multiple benefits of an enthusiastic and motivated student cheering section do hereby establish a union dedicated to these objectives.

Article I Name
Section I - The name of this organization is Red Scare

Article II Purpose
Section I - Red Scare is a spirit group open to all University of Dayton students. The primary function of the members will be to promote school spirit, unity, and awareness of athletic activities through participation in supporting University of Dayton athletic teams, especially pertaining to Men's Basketball.

Section II - Red Scare understands and is committed to fulfilling its responsibilities of abiding by The University of Dayton's policies.

 

Article III Membership
Section I - Active membership is given to all undergraduate full-time students, as defined by the University, who attend Men's Basketball games in accordance with the ticket distribution policies as outlined by the Athletic Department. Seating is based upon loyalty, dedication, and a "first come, first serve" basis. The more dedicated the student, the better seats he or she will receive. There is no priority seating.

Section II - Red Scare openly admits students to its membership and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, sex, national origin, or sexual orientation.

Section III - There are no membership dues. The only monetary requirement is the purchase of ticket vouchers at a rate set forth by the Athletic Department.

Section IV - There are no attendance expectations or service requirements associated with membership into Red Scare. However, attendance at games, social events, fundraising projects, and service activities are highly recommended and extremely encouraged.

Section V - Each active member will receive a minimum of one Red Scare T-shirt and a ticket to each home Men's Basketball game based on availability according to the new student ticket policy set forth by the Athletic Department. Props and other spirit objects will be distributed on an as acquired basis.

 

Article IV Executive Committee
Section I - All Chairs must be full-time undergraduate students at the University of Dayton.

Section II - The Executive Committee consists of ten elected individuals; including one student liaison from the Athletic Department, Cheerleaders, and Pep Band; and one Athletic Department Advisor appointed by the Vice President/Director of Athletics.

Section III - The ten elected individuals are voted into position at an election meeting at the conclusion of the basketball season before the semester ends, open to the whole University of Dayton student body. All elected individuals must be present at said meeting.

The three student liaisons are appointed by their respective groups. The Athletic Department appoints one student, the Cheerleaders appoint one student, and the Pep Band appoints one student to sit on the Executive Committee.

The Athletic Department Advisor is an employee of the University of Dayton Athletic Department and is appointed by the Vice President/Director of Athletics.

Section IV - The following positions were created:

President, Vice-President (2):

  •    Set vision for the Group
  •    Lead the Group
  •    Maintain Contact with Athletic Department Advisor and hold weekly meetings or at demand.
  •    Maintain contacts with alumni
  •    Check/answer e-mail
  •    Write reports/newsletters when needed
  •    Make decisions with Athletic Department Advisor to break deadlocks
  •    Create a team atmosphere among the Committee

    Webmaster (1):

  •    Maintain and update web site after each game/at demand
  •    Create address book
  •    Update AIM screen name weekly

    Finance (1):

  •    Maintain funds
  •    Balance check book
  •    Deposit and withdraw funds
  •    Hold debit card

    Secretary (1):

  •    Keep minutes at meetings
  •    E-mail minutes to the Committee
  •    Keep record book of notes
  •    Work with the webmaster
  •    Schedule rooms for meetings

    Public Relations/Marketing (1):

  •    Contact newspapers
  •    Write newsletters
  •    Advertise and market spirit group
  •    Maintain contacts with the Arena

    Operations/Spirit (1):

  •    Order and pass out props/giveaways
  •    Organize volunteers if necessary
  •    Create cheer sheets
  •    Conduct research on opposing teams
  •    Lead cheers/pep rally

    Social (1):

  •    Create and organize social events
  •    Research road game possibilities
  •    Organize pre and post game activities

    Fundraising (1):

  •    Maintain and establish contacts
  •    Work with Finance Chair, Student Activities, and Athletic Department
  •    Come up with and implement creative fundraising ideas
  •    Organize volunteers if necessary

    Service (1):

  •    Spearhead "Drive 75" with Xavier University's Student Athlete Advisory Committee
  •    Organize committee for "Drive 75"
  •    Organize on campus service projects for members
  •    Assist Athletic Department with community events

    Liaisons (4):

  •    Consists of one student from each of the Athletic Department, Cheerleaders, Student Government Association and Pep Band
  •    Communicate back and forth with respective groups
  •    Collaborate on issues
  •    Participation on themes and other special events

     
    Section V - The Co-Chairs will consist of two people that have previously served or currently serving on the Executive Board. If no outstanding Executive committee member chooses to be a Co-Chair, the positions will be open up to the student body at the election meeting, where anyone can be nominated.

    Section VI - If at any time during the year, for any reason, an Executive Committee member is unable to perform his or her duties and has to resign, the Executive Committee will fill the vacancy by nominating one or more students for the position. Any current Executive Committee member can enter nominations for the vacant position. Each outstanding member of the Executive Committee will be allowed to cast one vote for those nominated, and the winner must receive majority vote of at least seven votes.

    Article V - Finances
    Section I -Red Scare will have and control one checking account at DayAir to be used at the discretion of the Executive Committee.
    Access will be given to the Finance Chair and both Co-Chairs only.

    Section II - The University of Dayton Athletic Department will subsidize funds for the group at various times during the year. However, this funding will be under the control of the Athletic Department Advisor.

    Section III - Fundraising will be done on an as needed basis.

    Section IV - Red Scare will seek funding each year by application from the Student Activities Board.
